Job Description: Observability Architect

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Observability Architect to lead the design and implementation of observability solutions across our systems and applications. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of monitoring, logging, and tracing technologies, coupled with the ability to drive strategies that ensure the availability, performance, and reliability of our digital ecosystem. This role involves working closely with engineering, DevOps, and IT teams to build scalable and efficient observability systems that provide actionable insights.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Architect and Design Observability Solutions:

  - Develop comprehensive observability strategies that align with business and operational needs.

  - Design and implement systems for monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting to ensure end-to-end visibility of infrastructure and applications.

2. Technology Evaluation and Implementation:

  - Evaluate, select, and integrate observability tools and platforms (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, DataDog, New Relic, etc.).

  - Optimize the use of existing tools and recommend new solutions to enhance observability capabilities.

3. Collaboration and Leadership:

  - Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and software development, to embed observability into the software lifecycle.

  - Act as a thought leader and provide mentorship on observability best practices.

4. Operational Excellence:

  - Define key metrics and SLAs/SLIs/SLOs to measure system performance and reliability.

  - Establish proactive monitoring practices to detect and mitigate potential issues before they impact users.

5. Data-Driven Decision Making:

  - Design dashboards and reporting mechanisms to visualize system health and performance.

  - Enable data-driven troubleshooting and root cause analysis through comprehensive logging and tracing.

6. Governance and Compliance:

  - Ensure observability systems comply with organizational security, privacy, and regulatory standards.

  - Develop and maintain documentation for observability processes and systems.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

- Proven experience as an Observability Architect, Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), or a similar role.

- Expertise in observability tools and platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, DataDog, OpenTelemetry, Jaeger, or similar.

- Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud-native technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker).

- Hands-on experience with programming/scripting languages (e.g., Python, Go, or Java).

- Deep knowledge of telemetry concepts, including metrics, logs, and traces.

- Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and configuration management tools.

- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

- Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

- Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).

- Certifications in observability or cloud technologies (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Certified Kubernetes Administrator).
