The Fredy and Nadine Herrmann Institute of Earth Sciences of the Hebrew University is hiring an Ocean-Atmosphere Modeler. The modeler will work on basic and applied research projects in climate dynamics, oceanography, and meteorology. The modeler will participate in the design, implementation, and evaluation of a variety of numerical models as a member of collaborative, multidisciplinary project teams. The position requires a dependable individual who can work on multiple projects simultaneously, who can carefully scrutinize the technical work performed by him/herself and others to ensure high-quality results, and who can leverage his/her technical and scientific skill to advance research in multiple research groups.
The scope of the modeler position includes:
o Implementation of new routines in existing numerical models (Such as CESM, WRF, MITgcm)
o Performing numerical experiments
o Managing a shared data archive
o Active participation in research projects and publications (optional)
o Training and supporting students in atmospheric and oceanic modeling
Required Qualifications
o Experience in numerical modeling
o Strong scripting skills in Fortran/Python (or similar languages) and an ability to quickly master new programming languages
An advantage
o MSc in atmospheric sciences or in physical oceanography
o Experience in HPC environment
The position is available from March 2025 and will remain open until filled. The salary is according to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem salary scale.
