Class: GED Science 

Location: Hatsfira St. 18, Tel Aviv. 

Commitment: 2 hour class (7-9 pm) each week for at least 20-25 consecutive weeks

Organization Background: 

The African Refugee Development Center (ARDC) is a grassroots non-profit founded in 2004 by African asylum-seekers and Israelis. It provides support and empowerment for asylum-seekers in Israel, focusing on education and economic inclusion.

Position Overview: 

We are seeking an engaging instructor to teach a GED Science class covering the topics of a high school level science curriculum to prepare students for GED science exams. This curriculum and textbook includes basics of life sciences, physical sciences, earth and space sciences, and the scientific method. The GED Science teacher will create a supportive and engaging learning environment, playing a key part in empowering students on  their path to achieve their high school diploma equivalency. 

• Facilitate class one day per week from 7-9pm.
• Teach high school level science, following a provided curriculum. 
• Adapt teaching methods to suit students with limited or no prior science education, ensuring an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
• Review and practice class content as needed with students. 
• Assess and track student progress, providing constructive feedback and additional support when necessary.
• Prepare students for success in GED science exams
• Collaborate with ARDC/Schoolhouse staff to align course content with organizational goals and student needs.

• Relevant academic study or background. 
• Teaching or tutoring experience.
• Strong English communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts in simple, accessible terms.
• Patience, empathy, and cultural sensitivity to work effectively with students from various backgrounds.
