What we are looking for

We are seeking an advanced Japanese-speaking student with a strong understanding of social media platforms and teen culture in Japan. This role involves analyzing and classifying chat strings, researching keywords related to harmful Internet content and cyberbullying, and reviewing emojis for potentially harmful use.

This is a flexible, remote position that offers an opportunity to contribute to meaningful work addressing online safety and digital wellbeing.

What you´ll do

• Classify chat strings into harmful and harmless categories.
• Research and compile a list of keywords and phrases used in the context of cyberbullying on popular social media platforms in Japan.
• Review and analyze the use of emojis for harmful intent and provide insights.
• Collaborate with our team to provide culturally relevant input on social media trends and language.

What you should have:

• Japanese speaker with a deep understanding of Japanese teen culture and social media behavior.
• Familiarity with popular platforms like LINE, Viber, Instagram, TikTok, and other social media services used in Japan.
• Awareness of cyberbullying trends and the ability to identify subtle or context-specific harmful behavior.
• Strong research and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently with a high level of attention to detail.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in social media analysis or content moderation is a plus, but not required.
• Familiarity with Japanese “teen speak” and the evolving digital language of social platforms. Demonstrated leadership ability and track record of driving results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Work Hours and Compensation:

• This is a one-time project for one semester, with the potential for an extension based on performance and project needs.
