As a Data Science Intern at Microsoft, you'll have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies in Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs) and Natural Language Processing (NLP). You'll join an experienced research group dedicated to developing innovative features for various Microsoft services and products.

In this role, you'll work on real-world projects in collaboration with teams worldwide. You will have end-to-end responsibility for features - from design to implementation, evaluation, and performance improvements. You'll work directly with the newest LLMs to build solutions that provide real-time assistance, enhance productivity, and improve customer experiences in impactful ways users never imagined possible.

Combining your research and engineering abilities and analytical skills, you'll work with multimodal LLMs using various data sources such as text, images, and audio, fine-tune LLMs, automate prompt generation, and engage in data preprocessing, for Microsoft products.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a Master's or Doctorate Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
• Must have at least three additional semesters remaining before graduation.
• Experience applying machine learning algorithms to data, and practical coding experience.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Research or industry experience in Generative AI, DL, LLMs and NLP.
• Experience in programming languages, with a preference for Python, used for data processing and analysis.
• Experience with product evaluation, A/B testing, or experimentation.
• Strong capabilities in solving complex problems and integrating engineering skills with analytical thinking to enhance user experiences.
• Ability to work as part of a team, contributing to other people’s tasks and consulting with colleagues over your tasks

Responsibilities

• Develop and deploy innovative features using LLMs and advanced NLP techniques for Microsoft Copilot products.
• Work with advanced AI models to improve the quality, relevance, and impact of AI-powered features, staying current with the latest advancements in AI and using the most up-to-date OpenAI and MS models.
• Participate in all phases of feature development, including data preparation, prompt engineering, evaluation, and deployment.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers, engineers, and product managers to design AI-driven solutions that enhance user experience in Microsoft 365 and other MS products.
• Adhere to Responsible AI principles, ensuring privacy, security, and ethical considerations in all AI solutions.
