Backend Team Lead

One of our clients, a technology company founded in 2018, is looking to hire a Backend Team Lead. This company specializes in developing advanced geo-spatial analytics solutions, using cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies for the insurance and real estate industries. Their platform focuses on generating insights from satellite and aerial imagery, enabling companies to perform accurate geospatial data analysis and forecasts.

The company's solutions help insurance firms, banks, and real estate agencies assess risks, price policies, and gain valuable insights into property value. They operate on a SaaS (Software as a Service) model, providing clients access to a cloud-based platform built on large-scale infrastructures like Amazon Web Services (AWS). The platform’s primary users include analysts, risk assessors, and professionals in finance and real estate.

To date, the company has raised $23 million in funding.

Responsibilities:

• Lead a backend team of 4 engineers, overseeing the design, development, and implementation of large-scale, cloud-based architectures.
• Take ownership of backend development using Python, ensuring scalability and efficiency in processing large datasets.
• Mentor team members through code reviews, providing constructive feedback and guidance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, data scientists, and DevOps to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Solve complex backend challenges and drive improvements in performance and reliability.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience as a Backend Engineer with expertise in Python, including experience leading a team.
• At least 2 years of team leadership experience.
• Deep knowledge of software development best practices, coding standards, and conventions.
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL databases and REST API development (experience with FastAPI/Flask preferred).
• Strong understanding of cloud-based architecture and services (AWS is a plus).
• Hands-on experience with message queues like SQS or RabbitMQ, and integrating them into software architecture.
• Expertise in Git, CI/CD processes, and Docker.
• Familiarity with GIS software (PostGIS, QGIS, GDAL) and geospatial data formats (shapefiles, GeoJSON, raster datasets) is an advantage.
