About The Role

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Pinecone Database team, you will be building Pinecone’s core offering - our database engine. You will take part in the entire development cycle - designing database components, implementing them, and running them in production. You will be building a highly complex distributed system that runs on multiple cloud providers, where high performance and large scale matter the most. As we all have a high sense of ownership, you will also be a generalist, work directly with customers, with product managers, and mentor other engineers.

This is a unique opportunity to build a new database from the ground up - entering this emerging field at an early stage and shaping our product, technology, and business.

Requirements

A passion for technology
8+ years of experience with designing and developing high performance distributed systems in database or storage companies
Experience building high-throughput concurrent in-memory data structures, with strict latency requirements
Experience operating production systems at scale
Strong experience with a systems programming language like C/C++/Rust
B.Sc. in Computer Science, a related technical field or equivalent experience
Expertise working with one of AWS/GCP/Azure cloud platforms

Bonus Points

Experience with Rust programming
M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, in a related technical field
