Research Farm Manager

The position of Research Manager for the Center for Sustainable Agriculture (CSA) is responsible for the overall management of the research orchard, shelter garden, and nurseries, under my research guidance. We have experimental tree orchards, two agrivoltaic field crop experimental systems, and a greenhouse and nethouse. The research farm manager will assist me in developing and executing research projects at the interface of agronomy, ecology, and technology.

This includes serving the operational needs of the Center's plots, orchards, and nurseries, and monitoring the experimental site infrastructure and plants. The position requires planning and execution of field work, including irrigation maintenance and vegetation management in a variety of systems. 

Our feet are on the ground doing applicable research, but we are not afraid to dream big here in the Arava Institute. If you have the desire and intiative, you could join in writing and presenting research proposals, manuscripts, and lectures.

The position requires living in the Southern Arava region in Israel where our office and experimental farm are set up.

Responsibilities

-      Logistics, maintenance, and operations of the center, including field work

-      Supervision of laborers, interns and volunteers

-      Clear record keeping

-      Maintaining relationships with service providers, getting aquisition reqests, price quotes

-      Potential for developing new research ideas 

Qualifications

-      Field/agricultural experience – required

-      Relevant higher education – preferred

-      Driver's license - required

-      Tractor license –strong preference

-      English, Hebrew fluency – required

-      Arabic fluency – preferred

-      Project management experience, including budgets – preferred

-      Full-time presence at the Arava Institute - preferred

-      Living in the Southern Arava or Eilat region - required
