Director, Data Science - Ads Platform

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Director of Data Science to lead and manage our machine learning teams within Unity’s Grow business. This role is integral to our mission, requiring a balance of strategic vision and tactical execution. The ideal candidate will possess executive leadership capabilities and a deep technical understanding of state of the art (SOTA) machine learning methodologies and frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

• Team Leadership: Manage and mentor an organization of autonomous Data Science teams, promoting excellent development practices and ensuring the timely delivery of commitments.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product Management, Business Insights, and Commercialization teams to align staffing and business priorities.
• Performance Accountability: Foster a culture of accountability across all levels, establishing clear goals and measurable outcomes.
• Cost Management: Collaborate with finance and cloud teams to manage costs associated with all services from training to inference.
• Strategic Input: Contribute to the broader Unity technology leadership community by providing input into strategies and standards, ensuring solution reuse, and eliminating solution redundancy.
  
  

Qualifications

• Team Management: Proven experience in managing and growing teams of over 30 data scientists and engineers.
• Technical Expertise: Extensive experience with modern machine learning operations (‘MLOps’) infra, tooling and frameworks.
• Ad Experience: In-depth knowledge of mobile ads.
• Global Team Experience: Experience working with globally distributed teams.
• Machine Learning Expertise: Experience in designing and building machine learning models for large scale environments.
• Experience with LLMs / NLP and text data at scale.
