Head of Data Science

A veteran and growing startup in the e-commerce space is seeking a leader for the data science group with sharp technical and communication skills to take our highly educated and motivated teams to new heights.

Our Data Science group seeks a strong, collaborative leader with sharp technical skills. The ideal candidate should have a proven track record of innovative development and leadership and vast experience with computer vision, NLP, and ML methodologies skills. The individual must be passionate about data and appreciate model training efficiency, delivering business value, and developing the next generation of the company's product suites. The position requires a person who is not only organized and able to prioritize, but also can balance multiple work streams with tight schedules and constantly experiment with new ways to improve our product offering, including complex experimental design.

The Person

• The individual will be passionate about data annotation efficiency, delivering business value and development of the next generation of the company’s Visual and Textual suites.
• Highly organized, able to prioritize, and balance multiple work streams to tight schedules
• Both written and verbal communication with the ability to clearly and concisely summarize program and problem status to provide executive team with important insight against product objectives through excellent writing and presentation skills

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a group of data scientists and machine learning engineers.
• Develop and enhance ML models to enhance the company's core capabilities and allow an innovative product roadmap.
• Work closely with the engineering teams to enable continuous, fast, and independent release of ML models.
• Act as the focal point for ongoing business needs and ensuring customer satisfaction.
• Oversee and promote the efficiency of the data annotation and customer-facing teams.
• Participate in customer calls to understand and address ongoing customer and prospect needs.

Required Experience

• 3+ years of experience in leading data science groups.
• 5+ years of experience with Computer Vision (deep and classic) in a large-scale production environment.
• Capable of advanced research, aligning customer needs with research objectives.
• Extreme analytical skills with a proven track record in this area.
• B.Sc (M.Sc is a plus) in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field
• Technical expertise in diverse tech stack, including two or more of the following: Caffe, Darknet, Keras, Spark, Tensorflow, PyTorch - an advantage
• Previous experience with NLP, specifically LLMS - an advantage
