Job Overview:

Lead the creation of innovative, user-centered designs for the company’s products. They will

develop cutting-edge medical products that meet the highest standards of functionality, aesthetics,

and safety. They will also determine plastic materials, and manufacturing processes. This role is

crucial in ensuring focus on process optimization, product quality, and compliance with regulatory

standards. As a key member of the engineering team, you will collaborate with cross-functional

teams to ensure smooth transitions from design to production, enhancing the efficiency and

reliability of manufacturing processes for medical devices.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of mechanical engineers, providing guidance, support, and career development.
• Develop and execute project plans, including risk assessments, design reviews, and validation plans.
• Oversee mechanical engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budgets.
• Work closely with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain teams to ensure cohesive product development and manufacturing strategies.
• Communicate project status, issues, and solutions effectively across departments. Conceptualization and ideation:
• Drive the development of design concepts that align with project goals, user needs, and industry standards.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers and Product to understand project requirements and user insights.
• Generate visionary design concepts and sketches that push the boundaries of innovation while meeting practical needs.

CAD modeling and documentation:

• Create highly detailed 3D CAD models and technical drawings that communicate design intent, ensuring accuracy for manufacturing teams.
• Maintain comprehensive design documentation throughout the product development lifecycle.

Prototyping and validation:

• Oversee the creation of functional prototypes, both physical and digital, to visualize design concepts and gather user feedback.
• Iterate designs based on user insights and technical feasibility provided by the Product team.

Material expertise and manufacturing:

• Utilize your in-depth knowledge of plastic materials and manufacturing processes to guide the selection of appropriate materials and design for manufacturability.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of design concepts into production.
• Maintain a strong emphasis on “ease of manufacturing” excluding the need for complex tooling and manufacturing processes.

Aesthetic and functional integration:

• Champion the integration of aesthetics and user-centric functionality into design concepts, balancing creativity with the ability to manufacture and adherence to medical industry regulations.

Human-centered design:

• Ensure that designs are driven by deep user insights and usability testing.
• Advocate for designs that enhance the user experience for patients, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders.

Trends and innovation:

• Stay at the forefront of design trends, new technologies, and advancements in medical product design, plastic materials, and manufacturing techniques.
• Apply your insights to push the boundaries of design innovation within the medical industry.

Required Competence:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive experience in industrial design, with a significant focus on medical products and plastic materials.
• Expert proficiency in SolidWorks.
• Comprehensive understanding of plastic material properties, injection molding processes, and design for manufacturability.
• Proven track record of delivering successful medical product designs from concept to production.
• Exceptional communication, presentation, and collaboration skills.
• Strong user-centered design approach and a passion for creating impactful solutions.
• Familiarity with medical device regulations and standards (ISO 13485, FDA regulations) is a strong advantage.
