Data Engineer

The ASTERRA Data Science team is looking for a resourceful and independent engineer motivated to tackle challenging problems. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to impact the company’s AI strategy and implementation using ASTERRA’s proprietary data, contributing to global sustainable development goals.

Responsibilities

• Take full-lifecycle ownership of DataOps to support of the Data Science team.
• Design, build and maintain data ETL and processing pipelines.
• Model and harmonize geospatial imagery and semi/structured data from various sources.
• Oversee the entire lifecycle of reliable and scalable MLOps pipelines to support our Deep Learning models.
• Collaborate across teams and departments, serving as the technical focal point for all data-related matters at ASTERRA.
• Drive the monetization of ASTERRA’s proprietary data.
• Enhance ASTERRA’s data capabilities by sharing your expertise with your peers.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• 2 years of industry experience in data engineering or backend development.
• 2 years of industry experience developing in Python and scripting in SQL.
• 2 years of industry experience working with developer tools such as Git and Docker.

Preferred Qualifications

• Academic degree in a relevant field in the sciences or engineering.
• Experience working with remote sensing libraries and geospatial databases such as xarray and GeoPandas.
• Experience using cloud service providers such as AWS.
• Experience using orchestration tools such as Airflow and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) and TensorFlow.
• Experience working with applied researchers.
• Open-source contributions demonstrating the above skills.
