Cargo Manager

The Cargo Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the efficient handling, storage, and distribution of goods within a transportation or logistics company. They are responsible for managing all aspects of cargo operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, maximizing efficiency, and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Cargo Handling: Supervise the loading and unloading of cargo, ensuring proper handling techniques and adherence to safety protocols. Coordinate with warehouse staff and cargo handlers to streamline operations and minimize delays.
• Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels and track the movement of cargo in and out of the facility. Implement inventory control procedures to prevent loss or damage and maintain accurate records of stock levels.
• Transportation Logistics: Coordinate the transportation of cargo via various modes including air, sea, road, or rail. Work closely with carriers, freight forwarders, and other logistics partners to arrange shipments, optimize routes, and minimize transportation costs.
• Regulatory Compliance : Stay up-to-date with relevant regulations governing the transportation and handling of goods, such as customs regulations, safety standards, and environmental requirements. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations to avoid penalties or fines.
• Customer Service: Serve as the primary point of contact for customers regarding cargo inquiries, complaints, or special requests. Address customer concerns promptly and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction through timely communication and resolution of issues.
• Team Management: Lead and supervise a team of cargo handlers, warehouse personnel, and administrative staff. Provide guidance, training, and performance feedback to ensure team members are equipped to perform their duties effectively.
• Quality Control: Implement quality control measures to maintain the integrity of cargo throughout the handling and transportation process. Conduct regular inspections to identify any issues or discrepancies and take corrective actions as needed.
• Budget Management : Develop and manage budgets for cargo operations, including expenses related to staffing, equipment, and transportation. Monitor expenditures and identify opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining service quality.
  
  

• Bachelors degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field.
• Proven experience in cargo operations management, preferably in the transportation or logistics industry.
• Strong knowledge of transportation logistics, including familiarity with various modes of transport and relevant regulations.
• Excellent organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
• Effective communication and interpersonal abilities, with a customer-focused approach.
• Proficiency in using logistics software and other relevant technology tools.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to ensuring quality and compliance standards are met.
