Junior Data Engineer

We are looking for a talented, creative, and passionate data engineer to design and develop data and software solutions on one of the largest data platforms in the world.

These solutions span multiple technologies and platforms like GCP, BigQuery, Hadoop, Aerospike, Kafka etc.

Our team provides data services to company data science teams and partners to help them create risk, credit and marketing solutions.

We manage one of the most important data pipelines for PayPal that have a direct impact on the business. We work closely with PayPal enterprise data platforms, Data movement teams and other infrastructure teams.

Working closely with the data science teams and support their delivery. Collaborate with our partners to create risk solutions and keep payments safe. You must be service oriented.

Harness your innovative capabilities and creativity to provide better service to PayPal customers. Be very curious and invest effort in understanding PayPal systems.

Be able to take tasks E2E from requirements through design, development, testing and deployment. Be dynamic and be able to switch context quickly.

Your day to day

In your day-to-day role you will

• Take significant part in PayPal’s “Move to Cloud” initiative.
• Collaborate independently with partners to define, analyse, document their analytical and operational data needs.
• Working in an agile environment and with cross-functional teams like DBAs, developers, Support engineers, product, data science teams that are in different sites and time zones
• Operate and troubleshoot existing data solution. Investigating issues proactively and as a response to request/ticket opening. Provide remedy and resolution.
• Identify potential solutions, shortlist and compare them. Finalize the solution by collaboration with business.
• Create design documents that describe the functionality, capacity, architecture, and process.
• Build and test solutions, spanning multiple technologies base on design documents.
• Coordinate deployment to production.

What do you need to bring-

• Minimum 2 years of experience working with batch processing/real-time systems or ETLs – a must
• At least 1-year experience in SQL development – a must
• Experience working with various database technologies like RDBMS, Hadoop, NoSQL, Spark, Pig, Hive, etc.
• Working experience with Relational databases beyond just data access – a must
• At least 1-year experience in one of Java/Scala/Python/Bash development – a must
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills - a must.
• Good communication skills – verbally and written.
• Independent, self-motivated, organized and Team player.
