Neuroscience Specialist

Job Summary

We seek a skilled Neuroscience Microscopy Specialist to lead the Edmond & Lily Safra Center for Brain Sciences (ELSC) Core Microscopy Unit (ECMU), located in the Goodman Brain Sciences Building on the Givat Ram Campus. The ECMU supports neurobiological research by offering advanced microscopy techniques tailored to specific projects. The unit houses a range of sophisticated microscopes, including Confocal, Widefield, Lightsheet, and Two-photon systems, which are essential tools for many laboratories. The unit manager and their team will be responsible for maintaining these systems and providing comprehensive training and support to users. Furthermore, the unit manager will collaborate closely with ELSC scientists, assisting in developing customized solutions to research challenges through cutting-edge imaging and analysis techniques. Beyond the in-lab microscopes, the facility team also offers software and hardware resources for data acquisition and image analysis.

Job Duties:

• Manage the day-to-day operations of the microscopy core facility and its staff.
• Provide hands-on technical help on light microscopy, including implementing custom-built in-house microscopes.
• Train new users and provide in-depth workshops on microscopy theory and practice.
• Responsible for the long-term development plan of the unit, including budget, purchasing, and training.
• Provide scientific and technical advice to ELSC scientists on light microscopy, including training and maintenance.
• Adopt and develop state-of-the-art techniques and experimental approaches to advance the research programs.

Qualifications

·      PhD degree in natural sciences or engineering.

·      Theoretical knowledge and practical experience with optics and light microscopy.

·      Open to learning new techniques.

·      Experience with Image processing.

·      Excellent and effective communication, management, and organizational skills.

·      Teaching/training capability.

·      Ability to work independently as well as with researchers.
