Director of Software Engineering

A global tech company in the genetic sequencing field has developed a groundbreaking platform utilizing artificial intelligence algorithms and computational biology to interpret genetic sequencing. This platform automatically identifies clinically significant anomalies in user behavior and data leakage, supporting geneticists and physicians. It operates as a cloud-based SaaS solution on AWS, catering to hospitals and medical professionals with machine learning systems for DNA analysis.

Located in Tel Aviv near a train line (with an option for one day remote work), the company employs approximately 40 staff in Israel and 9,000 globally.

The platform is developed using Python and Vue.js on AWS. While the role does not require daily coding, occasional code review and readiness to fill in for team leads are essential, reporting to the General Manager of the local site.

Main Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage a team of developers and providing guidance, mentorship, and support to achieve project objectives.
• Develop and implement strategic plans and objectives for the R&D group in alignment with company goals and objectives.
• Drive innovation and excellence in research and development activities, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
• Oversee project planning, execution, and evaluation, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including executives, product managers, and other cross-functional teams, to define project scope, goals, and deliverables.
• Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment, promoting open communication, teamwork, and professional development opportunities.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in R&D, and apply knowledge to enhance project outcomes and drive innovation.

Key Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

• Master's degree in a relevant subject required; a doctoral degree (PhD preferred) is highly desirable.
• 3 years of experience as a Director of Software Engineering
• Previous experience as an R&D group leader of a 30 sized team within a corporate organization environment.
• 5-6 years of experience working on medical products
• Demonstrated managerial achievements in the field, knowledge of medical industry standards such as FDA and CE regulations.
• High-level proficiency in AWS/GCP/Azure, with extensive experience working in public cloud environments.
• Technical knowledge and ability to perform hands-on tasks with full-stack development.
• Proven track record of leadership and team management, with the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve goals and objectives.
• Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage resources, and drive project success in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and concepts to diverse audiences.
• Demonstrated strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on driving innovation and continuous improvement.
• Experience working in a cross-functional team environment, collaborating with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and disciplines.
