Planner-Production Planning and control

I. Overview:

The TPI Person, also known as a Planner, plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of a production facility. They are responsible for planning, scheduling, and supervising/controling production activities to meet deadlines, maintain quality standards, and optimize resource allocation.

Production planning and control manages and schedules the allocation of human resources, raw materials, work centres and production processes. It finds the most efficient way to produce finished goods with the lead times needed to meet production demand.

II. Responsibilities:

•             Production Planning:

o            Analyze production orders, bills of materials (BOMs), and customer requirements.

o            Develop detailed production schedules that outline the sequence of tasks, resource allocation (labor, materials, equipment), and estimated completion times.

o            Identify and address potential bottlenecks and production issues proactively.

o            Work with engineering and procurement to ensure timely availability of materials and equipment.

o            Coordinate production schedules with sales, marketing, and logistics departments.

o            Maintain and update production plans as needed to reflect changes in demand or resource availability.

•             Production Scheduling:

o            Break down production plans into daily, weekly, or monthly schedules for each production line or work area.

o            Assign tasks to specific workers or teams based on skillsets and workload.

o            Track production progress and identify any deviations from the schedule.

o            Implement corrective actions to address delays or production problems.

o            Monitor lead times and adjust schedules as needed to meet deadlines.

•             Production Control/Supervision:

o            Oversee production activities on the shop floor to ensure adherence to schedules and quality standards.

o            Identify and troubleshoot production issues promptly.

o            Motivate and guide production personnel to achieve optimal efficiency and productivity.

o            Maintain clear communication with production workers and address any concerns or questions.

o            Ensure a safe and healthy work environment on the production floor.

•             Data Analysis and Reporting:

o            Collect and analyze production data to identify areas for improvement.

o            Generate reports on production efficiency, quality metrics, and resource utilization.

o            Use data analysis to identify trends and make informed decisions regarding production planning and scheduling.

o            Present production data and reports to management teams.

•             Continuous Improvement:

o            Implement continuous improvement initiatives to optimize production processes and workflows.

o            Research and propose new technologies or methods to enhance production efficiency and quality.

o            Stay informed of industry trends and best practices in production planning and scheduling.
