About The Team

Key job responsibilities

In this role, you will have an impact on Amazon's personalized shopping experience, and the satisfaction of being able to look back and say “I was a key contributor to something special from its earliest stages”. The right person, is an experienced Software Development Manager with proven experience leading a fast-moving engineering team. With a strong technical background, great communication (writing/verbal) skills, and solid people management skills to manage and develop a talented and experienced engineering team, as it is essential for the success in this role. If you are seeking to invent, build and improve customers' experiences that enable millions of customers worldwide. Summary

  • You will own the charter and vision of your team, and work with PM, UX, and Applied Science teams to build the best shopping experience for millions of Alexa Shopping customers.
  • Hire and develop talents for your team.
  • Work with stakeholders to build attractive roadmaps and deliver high quality products for customers.
  • Exhibit excellent judgment on how to prioritize between focusing on existing versus new customers and between features, architectural improvements and operational excellence.
  • Improving and operating mechanisms that drive higher velocity for features and key decisions.

Basic Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of software development experience working in object-oriented design and coding in Java, C# or related technologies.
  • Proven experience working with scalable and complex architecture.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience managing software engineering teams.
  • Proven leadership skills and teamwork skills.
  • Experience guiding and mentoring software development engineers.
  • Strong design, architecture, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Successfully taken a v1 product from inception to customer delivery.
  • M.S. in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Proven experience in leading Applied Scientists, Data Scientists, and Machine Learning Engineers.
  • Expertise in NLP (Natural Language Processing), IR (Information Retrieval), Search, and Recommendation systems.
  • Experience in building big-data pipelines and solving customer problems using Machine Learning and Data Science.
  • Strong product management and development skills.
