Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have a choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.

About The Group/Team

The Discovery Generation group designs and builds experiences that leverage generative AI to unleash the creativity of our users.

The AI Media team is focused on building platform capabilities and user-facing features to generate images, graphics and videos with AI. The team is diverse and cross-functional, made up of a number of specialties including engineers, product management, machine learning experts, content designers, product designers, and more.

About The Role

Canva is the home of design for hundreds of millions of users around the world. We are incredibly excited about how AI will help our customers solve many of their design needs in a faster, more elegant way. This role will be to set the strategy for a key part of this experience and work closely with a cross-functional team to bring that strategy to life.

What You’ll Do (responsibilities)

• Engage with technical, product, design and business stakeholders to prioritise and build what really matters
• Drive customer research in the AI space to inform a user-centric strategy
• Evaluate our competitive landscape and position Canva as the leader in the AI space
• Develop and implement strategies for multimodal AI models, integrating text, image, and video data to enhance content relevancy and user engagement.
  
  

What We're Looking For

• You have experience defining the vision of early stage products and building them into larger, high-functioning ones.
• Proven track record in setting strategic vision and achieving significant product improvements, ideally with consumer products that lean heavily on interactive content to drive user engagement.
• Start-up mindset with a focus on substantial gains rather than incremental improvements.
• You have deep user empathy to understand user needs and prioritise user experience
• You are adaptable and can manage change and uncertainty with resilience
• You also have demonstrated the ability to influence other teams, across a broader company to ensure that everyone is rowing in the same direction
• You are passionate about AI and how it can solve real customer problems.
  
  

Some additional experience that would be beneficial in this role:

• Experienced in semantic design representation, generative media, and granular design briefs.
• Multi-Modal Machine Learning: Experience in managing multi-modal ML systems (text, image, video), including Named Entity Recognition (NER), computer vision, and image recognition.
• Evaluation and Quality Metrics: Experience with evaluating AI-generated design quality and making impactful improvements.
• Generative AI Expertise: Experience with generative AI models such as large language models, deep learning, neural networks, diffusion models, and NLP (Natural Language Processing).
• Design Thinking: Strong background in design thinking, particularly with machine learning integration to enhance content relevancy and user engagement.
• Multi-Modal Machine Learning: Experience in managing multi-modal ML systems (text, image, video), including Named Entity Recognition (NER), computer vision, and image recognition.
• Product Vision and Strategy: Proven track record in setting strategic vision and achieving significant product improvements, particularly in interactive content to drive user engagement.
• Evaluation and Quality Metrics: Experience with evaluating AI-generated design quality and making impactful improvements.
