Data Scientist, part time position, the lab of Dr. Milana Frenkel-Morgenstern

The Cancer Genomics and BioComputing lab of Dr. Frenkel-Morgenstern’s at Scojen institute for Synthetic Biology in Reichman University is recruiting a Data Scientist for a Part time position. The Scojen institute is a cutting edge research center dedicated to the development of innovative technologies in the field of synthetic biology.

Key Responsibilities:  

• Conduct research and analytics for the lab projects. 
• Guide and support our team in the development and validation of our clinical data and models 

Requirements 

• Academic degree MPH or MSc/PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or other STEM field that combines biology and computer science. BSc will be considered with relevant research experience. 
• 2+ years of proven experience in the development of bioinformatics pipelines, within industry or advanced academic environment. 
• Coding knowledge and experience (at least 2+ years) conducting data analysis and building data pipelines in Perl and Python. 
• Experience in data-driven analytics in one or more clinical areas: bioinformatics, genomics, proteomics, pathology, pharmacology, epidemiology, oncology, and immunology. 
• Knowledge in 'classical ML' regression and classification methods (linear, logistic, SVM, tree-based models, etc.). 
• Experience in MySQL and in Linux. 

Nice-to-Have Qualities 

• Experience working with big data (especially using Spark). 
• Coding knowledge and experience conducting data analysis in R / SQL. 
• Strong statistical background/understanding. 
• Advanced academic degree 
• Healthcare industry experience. 
• Knowledge in Biostatistics - including hierarchical modeling, Bayesian methods, power calculations. 
• Experience with code development workflows in a command-line Linux environment.
