Primary Duties
- Program Oversight: Responsible for the oversight of day and evening programming & personnel. Monitor programming to ensure youth needs are being met.
- Scheduling/Staff Oversight: Develop and maintain teams to address the needs of the youth, complete monthly schedules for Shift Leads and Youth Counselors to ensure appropriate coverage at all times. Responsible to find coverage for day and evening shift vacancies. Approve leave time as well as overtime. Provide leadership and direction to Shift Leads and Youth Counselors to increase their competency and ability. Provide oversight of staff’s performance during individual shifts, implement corrective and positive feedback on an on-going basis. Monitor training and development of new employees. Assist Residential Treatment Program Manager with employee documentation/discipline, recruitment and employee evaluations.
- Communication: Ensure agency information is communicated to home staff. Facilitate youth meetings and address behavior problems. Participate/facilitate monthly youth staffings and conduct home staff meetings with focus on teamwork, home operations, and youth treatment goals.
- Documentation: Review significant events within established guidelines. Meet monthly/weekly Medicaid quota as set by the Program Manager and Executive Director of Residential Treatment. Ensure all documentation requirements are completed accurately and timely. Maintain oversight of maintenance problems or issues within the home. Provide documentation of staff meetings to Residential Treatment Program Manager.
- Budgeting: Ensure necessary items are available to maintain daily running of the home. Closely monitor any overtime hours in accordance with program budget.
- Treatment Culture: Implement the C.A.R.E. model in the cottages through structured groups and activities. Monitor staff interactions to ensure individualized treatment interventions are utilized. Facilitate group and individual programming for the youth. Maintain positive interactions with youth and staff. Become well versed in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and work to help the youth learn appropriate regulation skills. Identify teaching opportunities for employees and youth.
- Other: Partner with other members of management to keep the work environment safe and compliant with all relevant laws and regulations. Stay up to date on all mandatory trainings. Responsible for on-call duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum: Must be at least 25 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, and a valid Illinois driver's license. Must demonstrate skills in working with and managing children of the type served in the program, and ability to work cooperatively with administration and co-workers. Must demonstrate leadership skills and have the ability to recognize and report issues or concerns pertaining to program operations. Must successfully complete all pre-employment screenings, driving clearance and background clearances.
- Desired Qualifications: MHP qualified (5 years of experience in a Human Services Field) or Bachelors of Social Work, previous experience in a residential or group home setting, and previous supervisory experience
- Miscellaneous: Job requires the strength/mobility to perform Therapeutic Crisis Intervention. Must maintain driving clearances to operate agency vehicles and provide client transportation, must maintain background clearances.
- Skills: Strong time management and organizational skills, ability to mentor, support and motivate staff, ability to work effectively with diverse groups and situations, excellent communication skills and computer skills
- Program Population: The youth in this program have a complexity of mental health issues/disorders. The intensity of these mental health issues warrants placement in a highly structured, supervised and safe therapeutic environment. The focus of the program is to provide crisis stabilization/management, behavioral management, and clinical treatment in effort to reduce the mental health disturbance and assist the youth in returning to a less restrictive setting. Due to the severity of youth’s mental health issues in their program the use of physical restraints and/or seclusion are necessary at time.
