Director of Engineering (Infrastructure, Scalability, Reliability)

As the Director of Engineering (Infrastructure, Scalability, Reliability) at Via, you will be at the forefront of driving and executing cross R&D initiatives that are critical to our technological evolution and scalability. You will lead the research and design of sophisticated systems, including multi-region architecture designed to support scaling, as well as pioneering asynchronous communication methods and optimizing internal service-to-service interactions.

Your role will involve not only the theoretical research but also the hands-on implementation of a variety of projects aimed at enhancing our system's resilience and efficiency. This includes developing strategies for load balancing, load shedding, and architecting cost-efficient solutions through code optimization.

In addition to these responsibilities, you will navigate a broad spectrum of technological disciplines, ranging from network and operating system internals to code optimizations and high-level architecture planning, ensuring a comprehensive approach to our technology strategy and implementation.

You will steer the technical strategy and vision for our underpinning infrastructure, guiding our efforts towards achieving a robust, scalable, and efficient technological foundation.

What You'll Do:

• Develop, drive, execute, and lead a long term vision and strategy for Via’s Site Reliability, infrastructure, and tooling
• Write, build, deploy, and maintain code in production
• Collaborate with engineering groups to establish best practices and standards for incident response and management
• Continuously enhance our infrastructure and supporting procedures so that it is easy to maintain and deploys reliably
  
  

Who You Are:

• BS degree or Masters degree in Computer Science, similar technical field of study or equivalent practical experience
• Minimum of 8 years of industry experience in cloud engineering
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in backend development
• Experience designing, deploying, building or managing distributed systems of significant scale
• Multithreading, multiprocessing experience in different types of environments - low and high level
• Professional experience and capability with essential cloud infrastructure systems (Kubernetes, AWS, GCE).
• Track record of growing and assembling a high functioning engineering organization
• Strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize tasks and keep projects on schedule
• Ability to collaborate effectively with a geo-distributed team
