Fermentation Lead

Alagene, the first & only Israeli biofoundry, is looking for a talented & experienced fermentation specialist for its ongoing SynBio activity in a high pace startup environment. The fermentation specialist will be responsible for fermentation operations in bacteria, yeasts and fungi that are part of exciting, innovative & multidisciplinary projects, executed as part of our internal activities or services. The work will be conducted with a team of synthetic biology scientists to achieve timely milestones & the desired outputs. 

Position Responsibilities:

·Operate high end equipment including fermenters and automated instrumentation for versatile experimental workflows

·Contribute to lab operation for development, validation, and execution of workflows

·Contribute to efforts to establish and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for Alagene standard protocols

·Work together with a team of scientists to meet project deliverables

·Active day-to-day lab operations (media prep, inventory maintenance etc.)

·Operate and maintain fermenters and related equipment

·Develop, execute and optimize fermentation processes (efficiency, yield and quality)- internal & external projects (clients)

·Assist in establishing infrastructure for a fermentation facility on an intermediate scale (5-10L)

·Track experimental progress using lab notebooks

·Report experimental results and progress to the management team

Requirements:

·Minimum of 3 years experience in the development, optimization and operation of fermentation processes

·Msc/PhD in the fields of science, preferably microbiology

·Knowledge and experience in yeast and bacteria precision fermentation

·Ability to learn quickly and read professional relevant literature

·Excellent analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills

·Strong written and oral communication skills

·Ability to execute and thrive in a dynamic startup environment

Advantageous Experience:

·Molecular biology technics/ microbes related downstream processes & protein analytics -preferably in yeasts (S. cerevisiae /P. pastoris) or bacteria (Bacillus / Lactobacillus)

·Experimental workflows development

·Plasmid editing software (e.g., Ape, Snapgene)

·Automated laboratory systems /practical knowledge of high-throughput
