Machine Learning and AI are at the heart of our goals at Booking.com. As a Principal ML Engineer in our Central Machine Learning (CML) team, you will be responsible for driving innovative projects in areas like Generative AI, Search Ranking and Recommendations, Promotion Optimization, and Content Intelligence (Natural Language Processing & Computer Vision).

Your role will involve defining the technical strategy and long-term vision for these platforms and capabilities. You will work closely with our ML-Ops department and collaborate with senior leadership within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

• Define the ML/AI architecture for Booking.com in the aforementioned domains
• Set the strategic technical direction for the next 1-3 years
• Collaborate with the ML-Ops department to build the appropriate architecture and capabilities
• Provide feedback and prioritize incoming requests
• Ensure stakeholder alignment and generate buy-in
• Identify new areas of investment and evaluate feasibility
• Educate stakeholders about the ML engineering aspect of our products
• Mentor and coach managers and individual contributors in ML Engineering
• Analyze the system and share insights to build knowledge
  
  

• 8+ years of hands-on experience in ML engineering using Python (Java is a plus)
• 5+ years of ML engineering experience on high-traffic systems
• Experience as a technical lead
• Familiarity with distributed systems and databases
• Experience with cloud-based solutions, preferably AWS
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Experience with data engineering and Big Data
• Advantageous - Previous experience with data analysis
• Customer-focused and agile
• Strong communication and stakeholder leadership skills
