Associate Director of Israel Studies

Alexander Muss High School in Israel (AMHSI-JNF) is a pluralistic, academic, study abroad program that strengthens our students' Jewish identity, inspiring them to explore their connection to Israel through formal and experiential educational opportunities. By transforming Israel into a living classroom and offering a robust, integrated curriculum, we aim to develop and foster within our teens a passion for lifelong learning and leadership, giving them the tools and the confidence to impact their communities worldwide.

The Associate Director of Israel Studies plays a critical role in shaping and overseeing the Israel Studies curriculum within a dynamic and immersive residential high school program. This position requires a deep understanding of Israeli history, culture, politics, and society, along with the ability to engage and inspire high school students in meaningful learning experiences. The Associate Director will collaborate with the Dean of Israel Studies, educators, administrators, and community partners to design and implement a comprehensive Israel Studies program that fosters a nuanced understanding of Israel's multifaceted identity.

Job description:

· Curriculum Development:

o Implement a comprehensive and age-appropriate Israel Studies curriculum for the high school program.

o Support educators in developing engaging lesson plans, activities, and assessments that align with program objectives and encourage critical thinking and open dialogue.

o Research new locations and educational concepts that can be included in the programming

· Program Management:

o Create a schedule for each program based on the specific needs and academic goals of the partner school

o Work closely with the Dean of Israel Studies to coordinate program logistics, including scheduling, resource allocation, and special events related to Israel Studies.

o Collaborate with other academic departments to integrate Israel Studies into interdisciplinary projects and thematic units.

· Educational Enrichment:

o Utilize your educational background to create experiences that foster critical thinking, cultural awareness, and personal growth among participants.

o Develop and adapt educational materials, resources, and workshops to enhance the learning experience.

· Logistics and Coordination:

o Work with the logistics department to coordinate all logistical aspects of the program, including transportation, accommodations, meals, and activities.

o Address any unforeseen challenges or issues that may arise during the program.

· Client Interactions:

o Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, addressing inquiries, providing information, and managing their expectations.

o Maintain clear and professional communication with clients throughout the planning and execution phases of the program.

o Gather feedback from clients to continuously improve program quality and tailor experiences to their preferences.

o Visit day school partners in the USA to better understand their student population, needs and expectations.

· Evaluation and Improvement:

o Collect and analyze data related to program effectiveness, participant feedback, and learning outcomes.

o Use insights from evaluations to make data-driven improvements to future programs.

· Professional Development:

o Stay current with developments in Israel-related scholarship, education, and pedagogy through continuous learning and participation in relevant conferences, workshops, and networks.

Qualifications

• Degree in Israel Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, Education, or a related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in Israeli history, culture, politics, and society.
• Previous teaching experience with high school or college-level students, preferably in Israel Studies.
• Understanding of American Jewish communities and High Schools
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational and leadership skills.
• Proficiency in utilizing technology for instructional purposes.
• Fluency in Hebrew and English
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful learning environment.
• Client Management Orientation
• Organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
