VP Technology for a Medical Device Company

VP Technology leads the upstream engineering activities incl. concept engineering and NPD. And develops with the team new, creative and cutting-edge concepts to customer requirements. The VP Technology is the most senior Engineer and as such represents company externally but also provides leadership to all engineers in the company, those part of NPD group, but also sustaining and equipment engineers part of Global Operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Understands Customer needs, requirements, interacts with Customer to find best technology solutions and how the company can be the right partner

Provides technical direction and leadership, identifies capability gaps, customer technology trends, researches new platforms, architectures and revisits existing technology stack elevate to best in class.

Acts as the technology face of the company where he/she gets involved in many customer-facing activities and collaborates with other functional leadership and the Board of Directors.

Offers new ideas / products / process improvements

Thought partnership and thought leadership: Able and ready to deep dive into any technical / engineering problem and actively drive solution. This can be a quality problem, efficiency problem, product design issue or similar. Ready to be hands on, and down into the details of the analysis.

Coaching and developing the NPD staff, identifying areas for development, manage team expansion, resource allocation to projects.

Aligns NPD priorities to what Business Development team needs to succeed.

Initiates and manage external collaboration and coordinate external D&D resources (incl. consultants, contractors) for specific projects.

Maintains a network with start-up community and technology companies in the Med-Tech ecosystem

Provide innovative solutions to complex engineering problems in all areas (product, quality, production)

Identifies and plans how the organization can use newer technologies and innovation to expand gross margins.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Advanced Degree in engineering field – PhD is a plus
• At least 15 years of experience in engineering product and process development with medical products, ideally minimally invasive consumables or disposables (Class II and class III)
• At least 2 years clinical experience: observed patient cases (cardiovascular preferred)
• International experience with oversees assignments; Familiarity with multi-cultural / multinational settings
• Ideally some product development experience or cutting-edge process engineering.
• Ability to impress and inspire customer R&D teams and leaders, project confidence, authority and reliability, influence effectively and gain trust (executive presence)
• Ability to integrate multiple engineering disciplines
• Engineering knowledge of medical device technologies and development processes
• Ability to foster collaborative relationships across the organization, with external partners and customers
• Significant experience in Customer engagement through technical aspects
• Fluency in English speaking and writing
• Excellent presentation skills
• Willingness to work with small dedicated staff and external resources as needed.
• Great at problem solving of engineering issues in all areas (product, quality, production).
• Flexible to attend calls to accommodate global time zones
• Flexible to travel internationally and connect/impress customer R&D teams and leaders.
