Senior Optical Designer

In your role as a Senior Optical designer, you will:

• Be responsible for designing, prototyping, and testing optical systems and components for imaging and non-imaging optics, lighting, and illumination applications including fluorescence and brightfield microscopy and hyperspectral spectroscopy, with a focus on designing for mass production.
• Work closely with other team members to ensure that optical designs meet performance and cost targets
• Lead optical designs R&D projects, coordinate with vendors and suppliers.
• Manage external subcontractors and work with internal stakeholders to meet safety, functional, optical, environmental, and quality requirements
• Use optical design software for prototype optical systems and components design
• Create physical optic models & simulations of component/system designs and derive tolerances and system performance.
• Present and participate in the Optical design PDRs and CDRs.
• Conduct testing and analysis of prototypes to verify performance according to specifications
• Write technical reports and presentations to communicate design concepts and results to team members and management
• Analyze optical related issues to identify root causes and suggest mitigations and fixes based on data analysis and in-depth investigations
• Define and lead the design of Jigs and optical test equipment to support R&D in quality and productivity improvements
• Report to the Hardware R&D Team Leader
  
  

• 5+ years of industry experience in optical design for mass production in the fields of imaging optics, lighting, microscopy, fluorescent microscopy and non-imaging spectroscopical systems
• Experience with designing systems that integrate LEDs at different wavelengths, mirrors, filters, diffusers, lenses, cameras, focusing mechanisms.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physics with expertise in Optics, Photonics, or a related field
• Proficiency in optical design software such as Zmax
• Experienced with:
• Optical system and component specification
• Optical system design, analysis, and tolerancing
• Optical sensors and imaging components
• Experience with managing subcontractors for design and manufacturing
• Experience with optical simulation and analysis software
  
  

• Illumination design and component familiarity (LEDs etc)
• Experience with mathematical analysis tools such as MatLab or Python

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• End-to-End project leading skills, capable of delivering projects from concept to mass-production design
• Well organized and systematic
• Excellent communication skills in English
