Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are essential to our goals at Booking.com. As a Principal ML Engineer, you will be driving innovation in our Central Machine Learning (CML) team. You will be responsible for defining the technical strategy and long-term vision for our ML capabilities in multiple domains such as Generative AI, Search Ranking and Recommendations, Promotion Optimization, and Content Intelligence.

In this role, you will work closely with our senior leadership and contribute to the strategic direction of our department. Your responsibilities will include:

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

• Defining the ML/AI architecture for Booking.com
• Setting the technical direction for the next 1-3 years
• Collaborating with other teams to build the right architecture for our business
• Providing feedback and prioritization assistance to managers and teams
• Aligning stakeholders from various business areas with our ML strategy
• Identifying new investment opportunities and gaining stakeholder buy-in
• Educating stakeholders on ML engineering aspects of our products
• Mentoring and coaching managers and individual contributors in ML Engineering
• Analyzing and sharing insights to build a strong knowledge base
  
  

• At least 8 years of hands-on experience in ML engineering using Python (Python is a must-have) and/or Java
• Experience in high-traffic systems
• Technical leadership experience
• Experience with distributed systems like Hadoop
• Knowledge of relational databases like MySQL
• Experience with cloud-based solutions, preferably AWS
• Strong problem-solving skills and systems thinking
• Previous experience with data analysis and insights is advantageous
• Customer-focused mindset and agile development experience
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
