VP R&D

Protalix BioTherapeutics is a pharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of therapeutics for rare genetic diseases. Protalix has two approved recombinant therapeutic proteins based on Protalix’s proprietary ProCellEx® plant cell-based protein expression system for Gaucher and Fabry diseases.

Position Purpose:

Lead the research efforts that support Protalix’s strategic goals by building and developing research capabilities.

Position Protalix as a biotech company with a significant, innovative pipeline.

Lead the early pipeline development strategy and execute development plans.

Lead, collaborate and drive continuous scientific advancement with a focus on identifying and introducing solutions, products and technologies relevant to both Protalix’s strategy and the global biopharmaceutical market.

Key Responsibilities:

· Drive an innovative and effective R&D effort that delivers a pipeline of innovative products which is responsive to market/customer demand and to Protalix’s business strategy

· Lead and manage the R&D team, as well as a Pilot production plant

· Manage all R&D projects including close monitoring of milestones, resources and budget/expenses

· Ensure the complete and orderly documentation of R&D activities to enable support of product development, approval and registration

· Continuously remain updated on new developments and technologies, attending global conferences, academic functions and meetings with relevant stake holders

· Represent the R&D group and its activities inside and outside the organization

· Collaborate, coordinate and support the Product Development, QA/QC and Operations groups

· Promote and enable a culture of innovation and excellence

· Participate in Protalix’s leadership team, reporting to the CEO

· Work is from the Company’s offices in Carmiel, Israel

Key Competencies Required:

· Ph.D. in life sciences or MD with strong scientific experience

· Strong experience in cell culture-based development of recombinant therapeutics including small scale industrial process development

· At least 10 years in a relevant industrial setup and at least 3 years in an executive role with large teams' leadership experience

· Strong background in cell biology , protein chemistry/manufacturing , biochemistry - added value

· Strong understanding and familiarization with the biotech and pharmaceutical industry

· Multidisciplinary and open minded

· Passion for science and excellence

· Strong managerial/mentorship/leadership capabilities

· Proven relationships and collaborations within the medical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology communities

· Analytical, strategic and visionary thinking

· Strong presentation and communications skills

· Excellent English (oral and written)
