The Global Upstream Senior Product Manager will be the marketing expert across a range of Patient Monitoring segments, both existing & targeted, including Capnography. They will have a strong understanding of upstream marketing, including competencies in: market assessment, competitive intelligence, requirement development, road mapping, and scenario planning to build platform strategies for long-term business value.

The Upstream Senior Product Manager will translate market and technical knowledge gained into tangible outputs including technology feasibility points, customer requirements, pre and post market claim strategies, and competitive analysis.

The Medical Surgical Portfolio strives to enable earlier diagnosis, better treatment, faster complication-free recovery, and enhanced patient outcomes through less invasive surgical solutions.

This position is an exciting and new opportunity to work with Medtronic’s Patient Monitoring, Respiratory Interventions and/or Medtronic Care Management System businesses. Currently a part of Medtronic, these businesses are being transitioned either into a new stand-alone company (currently referred to as NewCo) or will be merged into the business of another company. While you will start your employment with Medtronic, upon establishment of NewCo or upon the transition of the business unit to another company, in approximately 12-15 months your employment will transfer to one of these entities and you will no longer be employed by Medtronic.

The business will have the same singular focus, financial commitment, deep domain expertise, and global footprint needed to accelerate the development and commercialization of affordable and scalable healthcare technologies.

  • Note - this position is based in either Boulder, Colorado or Jerusalem, Israel. This position is not open to remote.

A Day in the Life

In this role you will use your ability to think strategically and participate actively in decision analysis using internal and external data, problem formulation, meeting facilitation, data collection, financial model development and implementation, and presentations to senior management.

Strategy Development and Execution

  • Collaborate with Patient Monitoring leadership, R&D, Technology Development leadership, and Strategy & Portfolio Management to ensure a robust R&D pipeline, including roadmap ownership.
  • Act as a business partner to R&D as the core team member on all active and tech dev project teams.
  • Participate in the development of product line, platform strategies and future vision, including clinical value propositions.
  • Assist in development of portfolio management tools for opportunity identification, opportunity evaluation, opportunity valuation, and opportunity prioritization
    • Owner of the financial Enrich model for proposed and active New Product Development projects
  • Develop detailed product proposals and product presentations to Patient Monitoring Leadership

Market Knowledge and Development

  • With market research, competitive intelligence & OEM partner engagements, keep abreast of key market drivers, trends and changes in the competitive & commercial landscape.
  • Participate in industry technical meetings, standards committees and conferences to represent Patient Monitoring interests and identify key technical requirements for product planning.
  • Develop market research and analysis for new technology / products, competing products and companies within specific product lines.
  • Develop product / platform pricing strategies for hardware, software and consumable products.
  • Identify market opportunities and work closely with R&D and Market Access / Channel team members to implement development strategies.

New Product Introduction

  • Lead the worldwide launch planning & activities.
  • Work with Patient Monitoring Regional Marketing colleagues to develop a robust worldwide forecast, regional registration and launch plans for new product launches.
  • Develop strong “hand off” to regional commercialization for new product introduction.
  • Maintain the key partner for all stages of New Product Development projects, including launch phase.

Budgeting

  • Assists in the control of marketing spend within approved levels
  • Responsible for development of project budgets and control of spend
  • Domestic and International travel as needed - approximately 25% travel

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in marketing, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience in marketing

Nice to Have

  • MBA
  • Experience within the Monitoring / Respiratory industry
  • Experience in a high performance consulting or strategic planning environment demanding a sophisticated approach to understanding financial/market models, competitive trends and business impact.
  • Strategic agility and structured thinking, intellectual curiosity is a must. Ability to turn detailed data analyses into succinct, useful strategic insight.
  • Ability to achieve results by working cross-functionally and collaboratively across a matrix organization, including scoping and managing projects with cross-business unit teams.
  • Self-starter, comfortable taking initiative and leading/project managing multiple projects at once.
  • Strong written and oral communications.
  • Strong project management skills and tangible experience achieving results.
  • Thorough understanding of executional aspects of upstream marketing, including experience in a position in an upstream marketing or product development role at a large multinational company
  • Experience creating marketing/customer requirement documents and or new product business plans
  • Working understanding of financial documents- Income statements, expense budgeting, financial decision-making methods
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing process, planning and logistics
  • Computer proficiency
