Senior Bioinformatics Scientist

We provide the science behind the MyHeritage DNA products, which make a profound impact on the lives of millions of users around the world by providing them with accurate information on their recent and ancient ancestors.

As a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist, you will play a critical role in building new features and algorithms and improving existing ones — always using state-of-the-art science and technology. This is a unique opportunity for a job that has an exciting mix of both academic and industry settings.

What you’ll do

• Work with an unprecedented volume of genetic and genealogical data, which includes the genomes of over 7 million people around the world and billions of genealogical records.
• Develop and expand the company’s toolset of DNA analyses, by quickly testing new ideas stemming from both the product perspective and the scientific literature.
• Take ownership of end-to-end development of state-of-the-art DNA products, from conception through research, development and engineering, all the way to mature products released to millions of people worldwide.
• Work with bright DNA researchers in a vibrant intellectual environment.

What you bring

• PhD or MSc in Computational Sciences (Computer Science, Statistics, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics).
• 3+ years of relevant experience in analyzing large-scale datasets.
• Strong programming skills in Python, using scientific and machine learning toolboxes.
• Hands-on expertise in large-scale parallel computing platforms (computer clusters, Spark, etc.), experience with cloud computing (AWS).
• Strong data science skills: understanding how to interrogate and troubleshoot data, analytic experimental design, machine learning theory and best practices, data/results interpretation and presentation.

Nice to have

• Background in bioinformatics, genomics, or genetics.
• Experience with developing bioinformatic infrastructures and pipelines applying software engineering best practices.
• Good technical understanding of setting up cloud computing environments and pipelines
• Familiarity with population genetics.
