Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Professional experience in engineering leadership.
• Experience leading scaled engineering and product teams to market success, through technical innovation within cross-functional engineering projects.

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• Experience with databases, database migration services, data infrastructure or adjacent technical domains (e.g. storage).

About The Job

Our goal in Google Cloud Databases is to develop impactful Databases offerings, to help give customers industry-leading capabilities in data management. Databases are key to accelerating Google Cloud Platform's growth strategy.

We have a global team that develops a portfolio of products, including Datastream, a serverless change data capture and replication service that brings database change stream data into the cloud, and Database Migration Service, a set of migration services that lowers the friction of adopting Cloud databases.

As Engineering Director, you will be responsible for managing a global team of engineers and executive leaders, steering the product and technical direction towards building helpful products, working closely with customers and scaling the service while achieving operational excellence.

In this role, you will build strong collaborative relationships with the engineering leadership across the Databases, Analytics, and AI/ML organizations, leading through influence. You will have close customer interaction, directly interfacing with their executive technical stakeholders to support engagements.

Responsibilities

• Build our database engineering team, including senior executive leadership, to drive and execute on Google’s global database charter. Provide technical leadership to your engineering team, partnering closely with cross-functional teams including Site Reliability Engineering, Product Management, Go-to-Market, and other partner teams, to deliver the best product offering.
• Partner with product and cross-functional leads (e.g., Product Management, Site Reliability Engineering) to articulate the overall roadmap for the portfolio, shaping and delivering Google Cloud database products.
• Establish and manage your project goals, contribute to product strategy, drive architecture decisions, and design solutions to resolve complex problems for our customers.
• Responsible for organization-wide engineering excellence (i.e. the right level of visibility /aptitude/ follow-through for technical reviews) and operational excellence at scale.
• Manage robust and scalable systems in order to get ahead of exponential demand.
