R&D Manager

Looking for a highly technical and hands-on Head of R&D to lead our software development team.
Reporting directly to the CTO, this is a player-coach role for an engineering leader who wants to stay close to the code, architecture, infrastructure, product, and day-to-day execution. You will directly manage the development team, take an active role in technical decisions and complex implementations, and help deliver high-quality products at a fast pace.
Responsibilities

Directly manage, mentor, and develop a team of full-stack developers.
Stay hands-on across architecture, technical design, code reviews, debugging, and complex development tasks.
Partner closely with the CTO on technical strategy, priorities, execution, and team growth.
Own engineering delivery, development quality, scalability, reliability, and performance.
Lead DevOps and production engineering practices, including cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, monitoring, troubleshooting, and production support.
Work closely with Product, Data, and Business stakeholders to turn requirements into effective technical solutions.
Drive the use of AI coding tools and agents across development, testing, debugging, refactoring, and documentation, with clear standards for security and code quality.
Recruit additional developers and help shape the future R&D structure as the organization grows.

Requirements:

8+ years of software engineering experience, including significant hands-on development experience.
3+ years of experience directly managing and mentoring software developers.
Strong experience building and maintaining modern full-stack applications and scalable backend services.
Solid understanding of architecture, APIs, system design, performance, reliability, and production operations.
Practical DevOps experience, including cloud environments, CI/CD, monitoring, deployment, and production troubleshooting.
Experience working in a fast-moving product or technology company.
Experience using AI-assisted development tools or coding agents in the software development lifecycle.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Advantage

Experience with C# / .NET, React / TypeScript, and Azure.
Experience with data-intensive products, APIs, AI-enabled products, fintech, or SaaS.
Experience with containers, infrastructure automation, observability, or production incident management.
Experience growing an engineering team into a multi-team structure.
