Data Center Facility Manager

Description

We are seeking an energetic Data Center Facility Manager to serve as a technical resource and leader within Amazon TLV data centers. The position will ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels of data center operations. The Data Center Facility Manager is responsible for the overall operation and maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, and HVAC equipment within the data center. The Data Center Facility Manager assume ownership on maintaining a high reliability and performance while keeping operating costs in facilities at a minimum. This equipment supports mission-critical servers and must maintain better than 99.999% uptime.

This role acts as Amazon’s front line when it comes to hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting. They will maintain, operate, and troubleshoot mission-critical data center facility equipment including electrical support equipment such as stand-by diesel generators and related fuel systems, 3 phase electrical systems that include but not limited to switchgear, UPS units, PDUs, and wet cell batteries and associated systems. Mechanical equipment includes CRAC units, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers/water chemical system, air handlers and associated systems, pumps, and motors. Additional support equipment is included in the scope of the role which includes fire suppression systems, building automation systems, and general facilities equipment.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the on-site management of shift technicians, senior shift technicians, sub-contractors and vendors, ensuring that all work performed is in accordance with Amazon practices and procedures.
• Has primary responsibility for engineering systems availability in both leased and colocated facilities.
• Conducts financial analysis and contributes to financial decisions.
• Typically manages 5 or more direct reports.
• Negotiates and rolls out contracts and defines and audits SLA's.
• May oversee the build out of Facility-specific infrastructure in existing locations.
• Participates in recruiting efforts. Continually raises the bar.
• Is active in the training and/or development of others.
• Executes vision and goals for the team or department.
• Will conduct Project Management for multiple sites.
• Draws from a deep group or department level understanding to make business decisions.
• Uses business knowledge to set priorities and develop project plans.

• Operate and manage both routine and emergency services on a variety of critical systems such as: switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems, etc.
• May assist in the design and build out of new facilities.
• May assist in projects to increase current facility efficiency.

• Bachelor’s Degree or Technical (Military/ Trade School) Degree and relevant experience.
• 4+ years of relevant work experience.
• 2+ years of management experience.
• 2+ years of Data Center Management Experience
  
  

• 6+ years of Data Center Engineering Management Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or relevant discipline.
• Fundamental knowledge of network design and layout as well as low voltage (copper/ fiber) cabling
  
  

• A completed Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university, or 2+ yrs Amazon work experience
• MS Office experience required, with advanced level in Excel (vlookup, pivot tables, macros, etc)
• Knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies
• Must be flexible to work all shifts day or night and some weekend shifts as needed, as this team provides tactical support to Amazon’s fulfillment network 24 hours/day 7 days/week.
  
  

• Degree in Engineering, Operations, Logistics or related field
• 2+ years work experience in logistics/transportation industry
• Expertise in MS Access and SQL
• Proficiency in Lean and Six Sigma
• Experience in manufacturing, transportation, customer service, and/or distribution environments
• Data management & data quality control experience with experience pulling and analyzing large sets of data
• Demonstrated experience using data to drive root cause elimination and process improvement
• A self-starter who loves data and who enjoys spotting the trends in it!
