10K Project Biobank Manager -Temporary position

The 10K project is a long-term observational study designed to find novel disease risk factors based on many physiological, cellular, and molecular measurements. This study is conducted at the Weizmann Institute, with human volunteers in a 25-year prospective cohort of 10,000 participants. Blood and stool samples are periodically collected and stored for research use in a biobank. The 10K Project’s biobank was established in 2019 and has accumulated over 80K samples that are either used for biomolecular assays or stored for future use. All collection methods and storage are based on lab automation.

We are looking to recruit an outstanding candidate for the role of biobank manager.

Roles and Responsibilities

·        Responsible for the biobank infrastructure, including sample processing and storage instrumentation and software for sample tracking and archiving.

·        In charge of all sample processing procedures of the biobank.

·        In charge of materials and samples quality assurance. Constructing and maintaining a periodic quality control plan, including risk assessment.

·        In charge of accessioning and archiving quality assurance.

·        Contribute to developing and maintaining the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), protocols, technical notes, and guidelines.

·        Coordinates and ensures the integrity of data and samples.

·        Responsible for procurement of required devices and interaction with relevant suppliers.

·        Identify and evaluate suitable IT solutions for biobanking in close cooperation with IT experts of the general planning team.

·        Responsibility for investigating, reporting, and documenting deviations in daily practical operations

·        Work in close cooperation with the clinical study management team.

·        Monitor and track the logistics and handling of clinical samples.

·        In charge of delivering samples on demand to researchers and collaborating scientists worldwide.

·        Responsible for training and guiding the technical staff in sample handling and storage and is responsible for ensuring the highest sample quality.

·        Responsibility for compliance of the biobank and the team with the institution’s rules for safety and ethics.

Requirements

·        The candidate will have a degree in biomedical science, MSc. or Ph.D, and expertise in processing human samples for biomolecular analysis.

·        Familiar with processes associated with collecting, storing, retrieving, and analyzing human samples in research.

·        Able to communicate effectively and interact professionally with the management, coworkers, clinical researchers, etc.

·        Exceptional in analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

·        Has great project management skills and can prioritize work efficiently.

·        Familiar with working in GCP or GLP environment.

·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills – proficient in both written and spoken English and Hebrew.

·        High proficiency in standard software and the ability to learn and utilize computer programs as needed.

·        Candidates with experience in managing a biobank are particularly encouraged to apply. Consideration will also be given to less experienced candidates who can demonstrate the necessary drive and vision to develop the role.
