Mechanical Design Team leader

We are seeking a highly experienced, technically strong, and execution-driven Mechanical Team Manager to lead the mechanical development of next-generation smart IoT and security devices. This position is key to the company core product lines, overseeing all mechanical aspects—from concept and prototyping to tooling, certification, and mass production.
This is a hands-on leadership role, combining team management, product ownership, and cross-functional collaboration. You'll work with internal teams and external suppliers to deliver high-quality mechanical solutions aligned with business and product goals.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers, setting goals, providing feedback, and supporting professional growth.
- Define workflows, best practices, and development standards to ensure efficiency and quality.
- Drive team ownership of the mechanical domain within the product development lifecycle.
- Oversee mechanical design for products such as home security sensors, emergency medical devices, and IoT hubs.
- Translate functional and industrial requirements into robust, manufacturable mechanical architectures.
- Lead design reviews, risk assessments (FMEA), and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage mechanical development from concept through mass production (EVT/DVT/PVT).
- Own DFM/DFA/DFT processes, part validations, and transfer to manufacturing.
- Collaborate with suppliers in Asia and Eastern Europe on tooling, molding, and production planning.
- Review and approve mold designs (cooling, gating, ejection strategies).
- Ensure mechanical reliability through rigorous testing: drop, vibration, thermal/humidity, ingress (IP).
- Oversee design compliance with standards such as CE, FCC, UL, RoHS, and when applicable.
- Maintain full traceability and documentation using PLM tools.

- BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 7 years of mechanical team management experience.
- 10+ years of mechanical product development experience in high-tech environments (IoT, consumer electronics, medical devices).
- SolidWorks – must-have: advanced 3D modeling, PDM workflows, 2D drawings.
- Experience with simulation tools: SolidWorks Simulation, Ansys, or equivalent.
- Expertise in GD&T, tolerance analysis, and part design for injection molding.
- Deep understanding of plastics: PC, ABS, PC-ABS, Nylon, TPU/TPE.
- Familiarity with over-molding, snap-fits, sealing designs (IP65+), and ultrasonic welding.
- Design for manufacturing and quality: DFM, DFA, DFT practices.
- Proven record in managing mechanical ramp-up to mass production.
- Hands-on collaboration with global manufacturers and toolmakers.
- Strong ability to assess mold quality, part tolerances, and process risks.
- Experience in mechanical and environmental reliability testing.
- Solid knowledge of product certifications: CE, FCC, UL, RoHS.
- Familiarity with risk management methodologies: FMEA, fault tree analysis.
