A wholly owned philanthropic subsidiary manages the Foundation’s grantmaking activities.

In Israel, the Foundation is deeply engaged in several priority areas that align with its strategy. In the wake of the October 7th attacks, both emergency response and long-term recovery were added to the areas of focus and span the full breadth of Israeli society, supporting secular and Haredi Jews, Arabs, and Druze alike.

Grantmaking areas address critical needs across sectors, including education, employment, Israel advocacy, mental health services, aid for displaced communities, rehabilitation for wounded soldiers, support for minority populations, and the revitalization of Israel’s agricultural sector. By identifying and filling urgent funding gaps, the Foundation ensures essential services reach those most affected by the war, from farmers and healthcare workers to traumatized children and bereaved families.

The Foundation also partners with other funders to reimagine Israel’s future. These collaborations have expanded trauma care, mental health support, educational recovery, and social and economic inclusion for vulnerable communities. Through strategic philanthropy and deep partnerships, the Foundation is committed to strengthening Israel’s resilience and long-term success.

Position Overview
The Israel-based Program Officer will play a central role in advancing the Foundation’s strategic vision and grantmaking in Israel. This position reports to the Chief Programs Officer based in New York and works closely on the substantive matters of the Israel grants portfolio with the Global CEO based in Israel. The Program Officer will also work in tandem with the global team and Foundation trustees to manage a diverse portfolio of grants and partnerships. This role is an excellent opportunity for a mission-driven professional with a deep understanding of Israeli society and experience working in philanthropy, public service, or nonprofit leadership in Israel to support the rebuilding and revitalization of Israel.

This role requires being a true team player—someone who understands that we are all part of the same lean, collaborative, and dedicated team. This position also requires frequent travel across Israel and occasional international travel.

Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
Collaborate with the Global CEO to refine and implement the Foundation’s strategic priorities in Israel.
Support the ongoing development of the Israel grant portfolio and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
Track trends, risks, and opportunities in relevant fields to inform strategic decision-making.
Design and lead convenings, site visits, and learning sessions for Foundation stakeholders.
Foster strong relationships with grantees, peer funders, civil society leaders, and government partners.
Partner with Israel-based consultants on key projects to advance strategic objectives.
Collaborate with the global team on overlapping projects, with a particular focus on visiting delegations and cross-border initiatives.
Grantmaking & Grant Management
Manage a wide-ranging portfolio of philanthropic grants in Israel, varying in size and focus area.
Identify and vet high-impact, scalable funding opportunities.
Conduct rigorous due diligence, including organizational assessments and financial reviews.
In collaboration with the Chief Programs Officer, develop grant recommendations for the CEO's consideration, including budgets and performance frameworks.
Monitor grantee progress on deliverables, deadlines, and reporting requirements; conduct site visits as needed.
Develop impact metrics and recommend strategic adjustments based on results.
Prepare board materials, including grant summaries, strategic updates, and impact evaluation reports.
Maintain accurate grant records on the organization’s grants database.
Leadership & Representation
As needed, serve as a representative of the organization in Israel, particularly for key initiatives and partnerships.
In collaboration with the Global CEO, represent the Foundation in philanthropic networks, policy forums, and convenings.
Cultivate collaboration across sectors and geographies to amplify impact.
Team Collaboration
Work as part of a small, highly collaborative team that spans regions and time zones.
Foster a cooperative, inclusive, and trust-based team culture, contributing to internal learning and shared goals.
Actively participate in internal retreats, cross-functional initiatives, and global knowledge-sharing projects.

Qualifications
Fluency in both Hebrew and English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or equivalent experience preferred.
5-7 years of progressive experience in philanthropy, nonprofit, or public service, including significant time in Israel.
Deep knowledge of Israeli society and demonstrated commitment to its future.
Strong strategic thinking and execution skills, with a willingness to take on any task, large or small.
Ability to develop and apply impact metrics and evaluation tools.
Strong relationship builder with high emotional intelligence and diplomatic tact.
Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects effectively.
Demonstrated ability to analyze data critically and process large amounts of information methodically.
Proven integrity, discretion, and professionalism.
Willingness to work extended hours, including evenings, as needed to accommodate time zone differences.
Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and adapt priorities as needed.
Flexibility to travel within Israel regularly and abroad periodically.
Additional Information
The start date is immediate. This is a hybrid position requiring in-office presence in Tel Aviv 3 times a week and as needed. The role requires regular travel within Israel and approximately two weeks of travel to the United States each year."
