Breaking the Silence is seeking an English Content Coordinator

Breaking the Silence is an organization of former Israeli soldiers that collects and employs testimonies from soldiers who have served in the occupied Palestinian territories since 2004 in order to stimulate public discourse on the reality in the oPt. We strive to bring an end to the occupation.

Essential Functions:
● Envision, translate, and write content for Breaking the Silence’s social media channels (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Youtube)
● Acts as a leader in strategic planning and execution of the organization’s media campaigns
● Take part in the continuous publication of Testimonies; oversee the translation, editing, and review of all material related to testimony booklets
● Coordinates translation of materials based on organizational needs as well as review and copy-editing of translated materials
● Responsible for the writing, editing, and proofreading of written materials in English across organizational departments
● Manage freelancers and service providers to build the organization’s English media content

Required Skills:
● High level of written and verbal communication and writing in English and Hebrew (additional languages are an advantage)
● Ability to perform immediate and accurate Hebrew → English → Hebrew translation
● Ability to edit and proofread English texts
● Ability to easily switch between written registers/tone
● The ability to meet tight schedules and work flexible hours or under pressure
● Self-discipline in time management, task management, and planning
● Excellent administrative, computer, and organizing skills
● Ability and desire to be part of a team
● Experience with the social networks on which the organization is active (advantage)

Necessary Qualities/Characteristics:
● Familiarity with the activities of Breaking the Silence and total commitment to the organization's goals
● Ability to think outside the box, strategic planning, and long-term thinking
● Previous professional experience with social media and digital communications (advantage)
● Previous experience writing scripts, producing videos or other digital content (advantage)
● Initiative and ability to work and learn independently
● Military service in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (advantage)
